POLS 521 The Nonprofit Sector
Graduate
3 Credits
An overview of the theory, history, and current rationale for nonprofit organizations, including a focus on how nonprofits fit within the larger environment of public service. This course presents insights on the full-range of nonprofit service areas, partnerships between nonprofits and government agencies that share public service missions, as well as the values and practices that differentiate the nonprofit sector from government and business organizations.
POLS 523 Nonprofit Governance and Administration
Graduate
3 Credits
Examines the needs of nonprofit organizations for highly functioning boards to provide organizational governance and productive relationships between board members and staff. Frameworks for the division of labor among board members and staff are considered so students will understand the interrelated needs for governance and administration in nonprofit organizations.
EMPA 704 Facilitation and Conflict Management

This course focuses on principles and theories of conflict resolution, negotiation and facilitation skills necessary for executives to lead organizations through change and to build coalitions both within an organization and among external stakeholder groups.
